Compassion is the awareness another’s hardship combined with the desire to ease it while providing comfort. Compassion arises from my use of the PRINCIPLES of LOVE, GENEROSITY and BENEVOLENCE.
Jesus is my role model. The authors of the Gospels reported on Jesus’ legendary compassion. He demonstrated awareness of the needs and feelings of friends and strangers alike. He eased it while providing comfort.
Jesus did not turn away from social outcasts; he healed them and shared meals with them. His compassion fed a multitude and restored wine to a wedding reception. Jesus wept when Lazarus died. Even when his disciples deserted him as he was crucified, Jesus focused on forgiveness.
When I am aware of another’s distress, I listen deeply with an open mind and heart. My kind words and loving presence provide comfort.
